How do you deal with a guy who withdraws from you every now and then?

My fiance used to do that before we were together. He'd have times where he wouldn't answer the phone or be online for weeks or even a month at a time. He sounds like a sweet guy. The economy is bad, everyone's broke and alot of guys HATE when girls pay for stuff. So maybe invite him over for t.v/ movies and some dinner or something.
