What can I do for pain from back surgery?
you NEED to take your stool softener;; it's given to you because of the pain meds; you can't drop down on your pain meds yet because they not only relieve your pain, but they also help you to decrease your guard;; the pain should actually be diminishing @ this point IF you are doing everything right;; you MAY want to ask your doc for a home health PT referral to teach you basic mechanics & how to treat this back post-op;; you NEED to use your cold pack (soft, felxible gel) on your back to supplement your pain;; & if you have any relatives, friends, neighbors that just happen to have a recliner, you may fair better sleeping, JUST MAKE SURE your back is completely supported (not curved);; quit guarding, quit holding your breath during physical movement like sit>stand & getting in/out of bed; make sure your tailbone hits the BACK of the chair you are sitting on & not the seat;; & if all else fails with the constipation..it's warm prune juice & milk of magnesia that does the trick;; but take the stool softeners, as regular as you take the pain meds..& don't strain to go...good luck...but call doc in the am... & btw, you already KNOW: no twisting, bending, lifting...
