Causes for persecution of women and ethnic minorities in US 1980 through 2005?

I would go with the religious bigotry because it would be an easier to sell your argument. In my honest opinion, people take what the bible is saying and interpret as they choose, or use it as an excuse to validate their own fears and misdemeanors. People are always afraid of what they don't understand.
